The BARNES (BARNS) Genealogies


1. THOMAS (said to have been the s. of a Roland), was an early resident of Hing. and the ancestor of all the families who have borne the surname in this town. He had a land grant in 1637, on Bachelor, now Main St. containing three acres, which was bounded N. by Thomas Hett, and S. by Ralph Smith. This lot is the one upon which stands the dwelling erected by Rev. Joseph Richardson, in 1816, and now belonging to heirs of the late Martin Hayes. Thomas was by occupation "farmer," and "weaver." The chris. name of his wife was Anna. She outlived him, and d. 5 Apr. 1691. He d. nearly twenty years previously, and a gravestone erected to his memory, and now standing in the Hing. Cemetery, bears the foll. inscription: --

NOUEMBER. 1672

His will, dated 29 Apr. 1671, gives the names of w. and ch. The inv. of his est. includes 12 horned cattle, 9 swine, produce, weaving material, etc.
